Meet Larken and Stella

Hello everyone! I’m Larken and this is Stella. We like to hike and eat pizza! Hopefully you’ll enjoy coming on these adventures with us! 

I am originally an East Coaster and moved to Colorado in 2011. I came out here to be a snow bum but soon realized how much I also enjoy hiking. There’s something about being in the fresh air and surrounded by trees! I don’t do a ton of hard trails, but maybe it’s time start changing that up. I mean, I’ve only done one 14er, there’s definitely more out there that I would like to summit. We also enjoy using our snowshoes, and are hoping to get new spikes this winter.

I adopted Stella as a puppy a few months after living here. She’s from the Evergreen Dog Rescue. They told me she was found just by herself in Oklahoma, as a puppy! Stella totally picked me out. I went to interview with another dog but when I sat down she climbed into my lap and fell asleep. I had no choice but to go home with her! Stella’s favorite food is peanut butter, favorite color is purple, she will ALWAYS find the most comfortable spot on a couch and LOVES being around other people. She needs to be friends with everyone. Unfortunately she also feels like she needs to be friends with cats and porcupines.

My favorite food for as long as I can remember is pizza. All kinds. I will argue with you about whether or not deep dish is pizza or a casserole. Growing up on the East Coast I am pretty picky about my New York style pizza. I haven’t quite found a place that makes it like home out here in Colorado. Good thing I travel quite a bit! I’m a believer in fruit on pizza, I love wood fired grilled pizzas, and home made pizzas get as creative as possible. Did you know that the Webster Dictionary defines pizza as “a dish made typically of flattened bread dough spread with a savory mixture usually including tomatoes and cheese and often other toppings and baked. — called also pizza pie”? Well. I stretch this definition quite a bit.

During this last year it became our thing to find new trails and new pizza joints all over the state. My birthday is in the late spring and was right around when Colorado was opening back up from the 2020 Quarantine. Large gatherings still weren’t an option so I invited one friend at a time to meet up with me, go on a hike with the dogs (I was fostering at the time) and then go grab a slice. All things we could do outdoors, social distance, and stay safe.

I’ve had so much fun these last few months and when I sat down to write this I realized I’ve been doing this for YEARS! Stella has travelled all over the country with me, finding fun hikes and then always riding shot gun while I pick up a pizza.
